Entry requirements

Every programme at Center of Education Pride has specific entry requirements. Review these carefully before applying — meeting the requirements means your training can start without delays or complications.

All Programmes

General requirements

These requirements apply to every student at Center of Education Pride, regardless of the programme chosen.

Identification

  • South African ID document (certified copy)
  • Two recent passport-size photographs
  • Proof of residential address (not older than 3 months)

Education

  • Minimum: Grade 10 / NQF Level 2
  • Certified copy of highest qualification
  • Ability to read and write in English

Age

  • Minimum age: 18 years at time of enrolment
  • Close Protection programme: minimum 21 years
  • Proof of age via SA ID is sufficient

Health & Fitness

  • Must be medically fit to complete training
  • No condition that prevents practical activities
  • Close Protection: formal fitness assessment required

Criminal Record

  • No serious criminal convictions
  • Background check may be conducted
  • Discuss your situation with admissions if uncertain

PSIRA Registration

  • Grade E programme: PSIRA registration will be facilitated
  • Advanced programmes: existing PSIRA registration required
  • Bring your PSIRA card or registration number on application

By Programme

Programme-specific requirements

In addition to the general requirements above, each programme has its own specific criteria.

01

Grade E to A Security Training

The entry point for anyone new to the security industry. No prior security experience or PSIRA registration is required for Grade E entry.

  • SA ID — 18 years or older
  • Grade 10 minimum
  • No prior security experience needed for Grade E
  • Must be physically fit for practical sessions
  • No disqualifying criminal record

Armed Response Preparation

Designed for officers who already hold a security grade and want to specialise in armed response operations.

  • Active PSIRA registration — Grade C or higher
  • Valid SA ID
  • Competency to drive (relevant licence if vehicle training is included)
  • No outstanding PSIRA disciplinary matters

CCTV & Control Room Operations

Open to registered officers who want to move into technical surveillance and control room roles.

  • Active PSIRA registration — Grade D or higher
  • Basic computer literacy (typing, navigating software)
  • Ability to work long monitoring shifts (assessed readiness)
  • Good observation skills — assessed during induction

Access Control & Patrol

Suitable for newly registered officers or those wishing to formally qualify in access management.

  • Active PSIRA registration — Grade E minimum
  • Ability to stand and patrol for extended periods
  • Basic literacy for logbook and report completion

Close Protection Fundamentals

A specialist programme with strict entry requirements. Contact admissions to confirm eligibility before applying.

  • Minimum age: 21 years
  • PSIRA Grade B or higher — active registration
  • Minimum 2 years active security field experience
  • Fitness assessment must be passed before enrolment
  • Clean PSIRA disciplinary record
  • Interview with the programme instructor

Document Checklist

What to bring when you apply

Having your documents ready when you enquire speeds up the process significantly. Here is what you need to prepare.

Certified copies only

All document copies must be certified by a Commissioner of Oaths (police station, post office or authorised professional). Uncertified copies will not be accepted.

Standard document checklist:

  • Certified copy of South African ID document
  • Certified copy of highest educational qualification
  • Two recent passport-size photographs (colour, plain background)
  • Proof of residential address (utility bill or bank statement, max 3 months old)
  • PSIRA registration card or certificate (where applicable)
  • Completed application form (provided on request)

Additional documents may be required for specialist programmes. Admissions will advise on request.
